About AHF & Africa

This year, AHF Uganda Cares is marking its 20 years anniversary milestone, celebrating 20 years of providing FREE patient-centered quality HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and advocacy services to the people of Uganda.

AHF Uganda Cares is an affiliate of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization which provides HIV/AIDS care and services, including antiretroviral treatment, to more than 1.6 Million people in 45 countries.

Coincidentally, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of AHF’s expansion outside of the United States to the global space, which started 20 years ago in Uganda and South Africa. Currently, AHF has a presence in 13 African countries, across 342 sites and supporting over 781,000 clients.

AHF opened the first Uganda Cares clinic in Masaka, in 2002 in close partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, offering the first opportunity for antiretroviral treatment (ART), outside the capital city of Kampala.

Today, Uganda Cares is one of the country’s largest providers of free HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support, and our program model was highlighted by the World Health Organization and UNAIDS as a best practice model for ART in 2003.

From Masaka in 2002, Uganda Cares has expanded its footprints across the length and breadth of Uganda; with presence in 32 districts, 64 sites/facilities, serving over 126,000 clients.
